Surgery time rapidly approaching

Although I read as much as I can on here, I DO ask questions from time to time, but as my surgery date rapidly approaches, I hope to start posting on a more regular basis.  I won't tell you I am not getting into the nervous stage, but I know I will suck it up and get on with it.   The hardest part will be getting up at like 3 am to leave for the hospital that morning.   I am not a morning person!

In part, I am almost more nervous about leaving the pets and so on for the few days I will be gone.  Just this morning, I forgot and let my shih tzu, Abbie, out without her shock collar for the invisible fence and she was busy chasing a cat and we had a hard time getting her back into the house.   She had a hard time at the groomers yesterday and wasn't in the best of moods.

And, my 30 year old daughter, Heather, has been ill with a severe case of TMJ, and the symptoms of what came later, from losing weight, (down to 82 pounds) to joint pain and rapid heartbeat.   I think she is getting slowly better now, after about 6 weeks of a really hard time, and two trips to the ER.   It is a long story....

At any rate, I will probably be getting on here to whine and carry on when Sept 10 gets even closer.   I was surprised at how pre-surgery instructions vary so much from doctor to doctor.   Many have to do a liquid diet for up to two weeks, it seems.  I only have to do that for the day before.  I am, however, going to really back off on eating that last week.

Another thing that I find really confusing is what people are allowed to eat after surgery.   My instructions are very conservative, with no "real food" for several weeks!   I can't believe what some people are trying to eat in the first few weeks.   Reading back in the profiles of those who has this surgery 5 or more years ago, a lot of them were eating way too soon.   I am usually not a very disciplined person, but in this case, I am going to follow everything to the letter!

Well, everyone have a great holiday weekend and you will be seeing more postings from me in the future.  I am also going to copy and paste this letter on the Indiana page, so I can cover us "old folk" and fellow Hoosiers!

Hiya Cathy. I wrote notes to myself, on posties, all over reminding me of things to be done.
If you are like most of us, you will not have to worry about getting up at 3 because you will not be able to sleep, so please try and nap during ths day as you can.
You are so right about how many of our programs vary, but WLS has come a long way. There was a guy at work who kept telling me I would be eating baby food the rest of my life!
Whine all you want! Almost all of us are nurturing..
So kewl...bi-posting.
Have a great day!

Hi again my surgery date is 9-10-08 I am on the pre op diet and can proudly say i have lost 11 pounds and feel better than I have in months.  It actually is much easier than I thought I pray about it and have not had one real moment of weakness, I can not wait to start my new life.  The way I figure it, Is I used to eat a whole days food for breakfast, after my surgery I will get to have what I want at the right time in smaller quanities, before I would have the large piece of cake when it was gone I still wanted more now after a bite or two it is gone ...I may still want more       ..no real difference   I figure any weight I lose prior is less the Dr has to deal with. I try not to worry, and let god be the pilot, and he has gotten me this far.  I know things will be great and we will be soooooooooooo  glad we did this for our selves. A friend of mine was over last night and her mom had this 30 years ago and in now in to her 70's she said she would not still have her mom if she had not had the surgery, sadly I have known them both the whole time and she is right Wanda would not be here if it was not for this surgery.   THANK GOD for WLS!!!!!!!!!!!
